How do you know whether a smile is fake or real?
When you see someone smiling, you get it but if I ask you to tell me the reason you would struggle.
When you display a social smile, the muscles on the side of your mouth move upwards. But, when you smile genuinely, two things happen:
- the muscles on the sides of your mouth go upwards and
- the muscles in the inner corner of your eyes and eyebrows soften and fall down
Our body sends millions of signals in a day and we have little control over them. They take place at the subconscious level reflecting our state of mind.
Even if we control our major postures like folding arms or standing straight, somewhere in the conversation if our mental state conflicts with the posture, micro-expressions flash on our faces, and our inauthenticity is revealed.
When you prepare for important interactions, it’s necessary that you undergo mental conditioning beforehand to get desired results.
One of the ways is to design your intention consciously.
Imagine going to someone with a sales proposal and your thoughts are breeding uncertainty, fear of loss or insecurity.
Take a pause and give a positive twist to your thought like how will this project benefit the client or even if they say no, what will you learn from it.
