Did it ever occur that you want something desperately, you have worked hard for months, and you can see the goalpost around the corner? Out of nowhere, you experience a sinking feeling. You doubt yourself and tell one of these:
‘I don’t deserve it.’
‘It’s not really worthwhile.’
‘Am I ready to take up such responsibility?’
‘Will I succeed at it?’
‘I would rather let it go and stay in peace.’
And you feel like giving up. You are in a deadlock. You are about to sabotage all the work you have done for years on that project.
Managing your mind at this stage is critical.
This is what I was talking about while coaching a CEO yesterday. He wanted to know what to do with this feeling. How to overcome it?
Firstly, whenever you are the focal point, you would be doubtful, insecure, and afraid. You go through an identity crisis. You worry about how you will be perceived. What if things go wrong?
To overcome that, make your purpose beyond yourself. Instead of getting obsessed about how you would benefit, imagine how this project fits into a larger scheme of things. How will it help the world? How will that change the lives of others? What can it do to humanity?
When the focus shifts from self to service, the doubts and worries evaporate and you feel empowered.
Change your game!
